About me Challenge: Day 2

How did I get my tumblr name? Well I wrote it on my tumblr where the name originates but for the sake of the challenge I’ll explain again. When I was in Brazil we’d have these ridiculous afternoon seminars most of which were either in Portuguese (therefore incomprehensible for the first 2 months) or was a bunch of trumped up BS spoken by a true BS artist—our director, Bill. So some of the boys started arming us with snacks bought at the gas station I think. One day, 3 of them (emiliano, jose, and charles) brought in this chocolate bar. Me not being the biggest fan of chocolate was kind of skeptical but I tried it anyway. That chocolate bar was UH-MAZING! It was a better version of a crunch bar. It was called…..drum roll….Diamante Negro (gee-uh-mahnchee neh-groo). I just thought it was a hilarious name. It means ‘black diamond’ and I though it would be a good descriptor for me as well (no I’m not that narcissistic). The term actually originates with one of …

Samba in NYC

This was my samba teacher today, and that literally was the pace of the class and many of the combinations that we did. She slowed it down in the beginning but only to show it like 4 times before full speed. But I loved it, every minute of it. My feet and ankles were burning for some of it and I was dripping sweat like everyone else. Afterward all I could think about was a bowl of açaí like I often had on hot days in Brazil, or after a capoeira class. I almost bought this açaí sorbet at whole foods but decided not to get the $6 sorbet and instead get some coconut water (which I really didn’t like to drink while in Brazil, but it’s slowly growing on me, and it’s definitely preferable to gatorade). Then, as if to round out my evening, I drank my coconut water on the subway platform waiting for the L listening to the same two men who are always (pleasantly) there playing the djembe and the marimba …

Last Day

This is my last blog post from Brazil. I’m not really sure what to say about brazil, except it’s been a non-stop adventure. I will definitely never forget my times here, and reading my diary in the future about these last 3 and half months, will be something to look forward to. I will post my pictures when I get home I guess since Facebook’s being absurd about my uploads and I can only post one or two on this. I’ll be back at home wednesday morning and will have a long day of travelling tomorrow. But this past weekend has been great. I went to a concert on a beach saturday night and stayed out at a bar until 4 in the morning. Had a surprise breakfast party on sunday morning. Spent all day sunday at a beach outside of the city eating churrasco (grilled meat), drinking caipirinhas, listening to music, and getting knocked around in the ocean, until after dark. I’d say this has been a success. Até mais…
