Before the Ten Commandments…

there were the 42 principles of Ma’at, the Ancient Egyptian divine Principle of Truth, Justice, and Righteousness, and is the foundation of natural and social order and unity. These 42 principles pre-date the commandments by 2000 or so years, but they include almost all of the commandments. These principles are much more explicit and demanding of morality, justice, and righteousness than the commandments alone (although the commandments in conjunction with the rest of the bible, should suggest the same level of morality, justice, and humanity) The irony is that these principles were developed by Ancient Africans, who by all eurocentric, judeo-christian centered historical accounts (at least in the last century), were primitive and backwards, pre-dating civilization. Well, you can read them for yourself and determine what’s more backwards: the explicit principles of Ancient Africans, or the loosely adhered to ten commandments by some (not all!) Christians who choose to interpret and twist them around usually only to suit their (un-christian) greedy and selfish motivations. We need to incorporate some of these principles into our daily …

Oberlin/Law&Order?

So maybe I’m just slow, or maybe it’s just a coincidence, but Oberlin’s “Stories” theme resounds of the end of the law & order SVU intro. “In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad, known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories.” –In the liberal arts system, sexuality, gender, race, class & (maybe) religious based offenses are considered especially heinous. In Oberlin, OH, the dedicated professors who investigate these vicious intersectional and institutionalized inequalities are members of an elite squad, known as the AAST, CAST, GSF Departments. We are Oberlin. These are our stories *dun dun!*

Making a Vow to Love ME

This is my year after college to figure out what I want to do and where I want to go next. Since I’m still so up in the air, I’ve decided to focus on me and take care of me for once in my life. So I’m promising myself to: 1) Love my body—I will lose this excess weight, exercise more, stretch more, put good food in my body, drink more water, take care of my skin and hair 2) Love my mind—I want to read these books that have been sitting on my shelf, continue my self teaching of portuguese, re-write some of those papers where I did research on issues that mattered to me but didn’t necessarily organize my thoughts well, stay a constant student (even out of school) and continue learning & researching 3) Love my creativity—I WILL dance! I will bring my violin up here (when I get a chance to go home) and practice the hell out of it and enjoy the music that I make-not worrying what others think; I …

Home sweet Home

My apartment is finally starting to feel like home. It has some serious issues but we’re trying to work them out and get comfy with our surroundings. It’s been an interesting journey thus far even to finding an apartment and now that I’ve moved in, we’ve had to deal a multitude of things: 1) the crazy girl whose room I moved into: She and my roommates moved into the apt just a month ago and within a few weeks lost her mind, did some nutso things, and said some things…not to mention her general passive aggressivity. So she left, but she couldn’t move her stuff all out and thus it was sitting in the hall from sept 1, until early this week. So now we have our hallway back!!! But she refuses to give the key back since her name is on the lease (crazy b*tch) 2) Cable/Internet: it was supposed to be installed YESTERDAY. The guy came 15 minutes before the end of his 1st window when my housemate had to leave for work. …

I’m something like stormy weather If I weren’t we would never Huddle together, do I have to tell you That I’m also the sunlight, that shines shortly after? I just rain cause I have to, on to another chapter I wish you lots of laughter Til the next time you see me Just remember you need me, I’m the storm coming (And I come, I come, I come, I come) Oh C’mon (And I come, I come, I …
