Complicated

So things here got incredibly complicated in just a few hours, but people with SIT are dealing with it really well. I just hope everything turns out okay given that there are only 2 weeks left of regular classes. I have to move homestay families now, which really throws a wrench in everything and isn’t exactly what I’d hope would be the situation. This week we have community projects to engage in so it’s not even a regular week of classes to get adjusted to a new homestay situation, and I don’t even know where I’m going yet, I’ll find out in about 10 minutes when I get picked up from a friend’s homestay house to go back to my own to pack up my things. Damn.

On the upside, it is a week of community projects and I am working with a Capoeira Regional group. Would’ve been nice to have Angola, but it’s not common here. I’m not sure what to expect at all, and I’m a bit intimidated after what a friend told me about how the group trains this very male heavy group, but I’m sure that I’ll be okay. I’m also a bit anxious to have to communicate solely in Portuguese and them not understanding me, especially given that I have to conduct a few interviews as well, but it’ll definitely force me to learn quick!

The program is moving at an incredible rate and after this week, we only have one more week of actual classes. It’s too soon! Then we have 2 weeks of travelling as a group to other cities in the northeast of brazil, and then we’re off for 3 weeks doing our ISPs in our separate locations until we come back in December to write up our reports, present, and then head back to the states. I miss home, but I have a feeling once I get to Salvador I won’t want to leave, which isn’t an option, but it’ll just mean I have to figure out a way to come back.
